Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar today addressed the ongoing budget session of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly.
Dhankhar is the second Vice President after M Venkaiah Naidu to address the Mizoram Assembly.
Naidu addressed the budget session of the Mizoram Assembly during the Mizo National Front (MNF) rule under former chief minister Zoramthanga on March 10, 2022.
Among the key takeaways of his address to the House, Vice President Jagdeep highlighted the fact that the nation is progressing toward woman-led development. This he said in reference to the fact that 3 women have been elected to the Mizoram Legislative Assembly for the first time.
The Vice-president said, “It is a matter of pride that this assembly has three women members for the first time. Their presence in this house reflects increasing participation of women in governance and policy making. We are fast heading towards women-led development. The spectacular performance of our girls on the 75th Republic Day at Kartavya Path was a defining moment and a welcome change. It was their day. On September 20 and 21 last year Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha passed a constitutional legislation Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam providing for 1/3 reservation for women in Lok Sabha and State Legislatures. This became law and constitutional prescription with the signing by the President of India Droupadi Murmu, the first tribal and first woman tribal to occupy the highest post.”
The Vice-President also highlighted the fact that Mizoram has potential to make rapid strides in terms of tourism.
In his speech Jagdeep Dhankhar said, “Mizoram is gifted with incredible beauty and cultural richness.
Surrounded by lush green hills and villages, it is a dream destination for tourists! The developmental activities will enhance tourism in the area.”
“Your enormous potential in tourism, horticulture and local art must be fully exploited. It makes great opportunities available to young minds!,” the Vice-President added.
Towards the conclusion of his speech, the vice-president said that the state is full of hope and possibility and urged all concerned to deliver by taking into account the wisdom of the Legislature.
Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar also attended the convocation of the Mizoram University. In his message to the students, Dhankhar said, “The future lies in your hands. You have to unlock your energies, exploit your potential. I have no doubt: success will be yours and that success will be highly impactful for the state, for the nation & for the world!”
