The party will now focus on 3 constituencies in North Sikkim and hold constituency level meetings.
The ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) is leaving no stone unturned to have a clear edge over its rivals in the ensuing assembly elections.
Taking things a step ahead, the SKM today completed its constituency level meetings in 5 out of the total 6 districts in the Himalayan state.
The party will now focus on 3 constituencies in North Sikkim and hold constituency level meetings.
Political secretary to Sikkim CM and SKM leader Jacob Khaling speaking to Northeast Live exuded confidence that his party will certainly have the last laugh in the election. He attributed this to the people’s turnout in the SKM’s constituency level meetings.
Khaling said, “From January 8, our constituency level meetings started and the last one was held today in Gangtok district. Thus we have completed our constituency level meetings everywhere except Poklok Kamrang. We have to do it in 3 constituencies in North Sikkim.
We have receieved people’s response more than what we expected, the way people were present in our meetings, the key attraction was the enthusiasm of the people because we did not distribute any freebies, there was distribution of any benefits. Despite this, people turned up in huge numbers in every constituency. This clearly reflects that in the coming election will win with a big majority.”
Regarding ticket distribution, Jacob Khaling said, “The day when the ECI announces the poll dates and the full schedule is out, the SKM high command will announce the list of candidates. The Parliamentary Committee after due consultations with our party workers across the state will distribute the tickets.”
However, Khaling today unofficially said that Arun Kumar Upreti will be the SKM candidate from the Arithang constituency.
“Arun Upreti is one of the senior leaders of our party, he is also the secretary general of the party and there is no dispute in this constituency (Arithang). So I said that the party can move easily wherever there is no dispute (regarding ticket distribution),” Khaling added.
