Nagaland: Top NSCN (I-M) leader Khampei Opeiham Konyak shot dead

The shootout occured at around 9:30 pm last night at Namsa under Tizit police station.
Sensation prevails in Nagaland’s Mon district after a top NSCN-IM leader was shot dead by unidentified gunmen last night.
The deceased has been identified as Khampei Opeiham Konyak who suffered bullet injuries in his right chest.
Soon the NSCN-IM leader was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to the injuries on the way.
The shootout happened at around 9:30 pm last night at Namsa under Tizit police station.
Inputs suggest that a six-member group of unidentified assailants stormed the residence of Khampei and shot him.
Sources said Khempei’s wife and his children were present during the attack by the assailants. He was a member of NSCN (YA). He defected to NSCN-IM. Again he went back to NSCN (YA) and again came back to NSCN-IM.
Police probe into the incident is underway.
Although an official statement is still awaited, the NSCN-IM suspects a rival faction to be behind the killing.
