Five organisations that includes two student groups, one women's group, a senior citizens body and the Central Young Mizo association will take part in tomorrow's protest demonstration.

Chief minister Lalduhoma has once again opposed the scrapping of the free movement regime as well as the Centre’s decision to fence the 1643 km long Indo-Myanmar border.

Lalduhoma made his government’s stand clear to a group of civil society leaders in Mizoram even as the NGO Coordination Committee is gearing up to hold a protest demonstration in Aizawl tomorrow to oppose New Delhi’s decision to withdraw the free movement regime and fence the border with Myanmar.
Mizoram shares a 510 km long border with Myanmar.

Lalduhoma has been quoted as saying that it was the British who divided the Kuki-Zo ethnic community by drawing an artificial border and that it is the undying dream of the Mizos to live together with their Kuki-Zo brothers and reunite under a single administrative unit.

Five organisations that includes two student groups, one women’s group, a senior citizens body and the Central Young Mizo association will take part in tomorrow’s protest demonstration.

The FMR that existed allowed free movement of people on either side of the India Myanmar border to travel 16 km into each other’s territory without travel documents.

Groups in Mizoram say the Mizoram stretch of the border should be left unfenced even if the centre goes ahead in fencing the border in other states in the Northeast.
