Assam: HSLC candidate dies after fainting during exam

A candidate appearing in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examinations in Assam has died after she fainted during examination in Darrang.

The deceased student has been identified as Ananya Baruah, a resident of Sipajahar in Darrang district. She was a student of the Sipajhar B. J Girls’ High School.

As per reports, Ananya Baruah fainted in the examination hall on the first day of the HSLC examinations on February 16. She was immidiately rushed to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment. However, after undergoing treatment for 3 days, Ananya has died on Sunday night.

The reason behind her death is not known yet.

The HSLC examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) begun from February 16 and will conclude on March 4, 2024.

Around 4,27,922 candidates are appearing in the HSLC examination across the state this year.

It may be mentioned here that for the first time this year, Optical mark Recognition (OMR) are being used in four subjects.
