According to Mukul Sangma, discussions are happening within the I.N.D.I.A. bloc with the intent of having single candidate as far as some of the seats in some of the states
Is the opposition I.N.D.I.A. bloc setting its eyes on the Lok Sabha elections in Meghalaya? Well, from the statements made by former Meghalaya CM and state TMC chief Mukul Sangma, it is clear that the opposition front is working on different nitty gritties to field a common candidates, in the state, especially in the Tura Lok Sabha seat.
However, from the comments of Mukul Sangma it seems that the TMC is just waiting for the decision to be taken within the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, of which the party is a key constituent.
Sangma cited that internal discussions are happening with the I.N.D.I.A. bloc regarding fielding a common “single” candidates in certain seats in selective states.
Giving a clear hint that the I.N.D.I.A. block is working on plans to field a common candidate, Mukul Sangma said, “we need to have some patience until we have the overall agreed date when the name of the candidates will be pronounced. Because I must tell you one more thing that I have been informed that some internal discussions are still going on in the INDIA bloc in respect of giving infusion to the intent of having single candidate as far as some of the seats in some of the states are concerned, even if it may not be possible in some states.
So having been informed about this development I think we are still patiently waiting.”
Worth mentioning, the main political parties- the NPP, Congress are ready with names of candidates.
Even, the Voice of People’s Party (VPP) and the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) have finalized their candidates for the Shillong parliamentary seat.
At this juncture, the TMC being led by former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, being unable to finalize the names, has raised many speculations.
Whereas there are intense specualtions over this, TMC chief in Meghalaya Mukul Sangma has revealed as to why the party is taking time to announce the names of its candidates.
According to the former CM, a name or two have emerged, for which the party is looking into every aspect before their names are given a nod.
Replying to a straight question by Northeast Live as to when one can expect the names of TMC candidates, Mukul Sangma said, “We are working on consultations because one or two names have emerged and we are discussing with the people whose names have been sorted by colleagues in the party. Hopefully they will make themselves available as candidates. Based on that outcome of this consultation and discussion we will be sitting again. Susequently the date for announcement will be decided in consultation with the chairperson of the party.”
According to Mukul Sangma, the ongoing discussions in the I.N.D.I.A. bloc will realize the collective intent of its constituents.
He stated, “As I said it will be determined by various other political dynamics. If the negotiation is still on, this is going to give some kind of shape to the collective intent which is there, the collective intent of the partys in the I.N.D.I.A. bloc.”
