Justice S Vaidyanathan sworn in as Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court’

He succeeds Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee who retired in November last year

Justice S Vaidyanathan was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court today.

He was administered the oath of office by Governor Phagu Chauhan in the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan.

He succeeds Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee who retired in November last year.

Justice S Vaidyanathan was appointed as the Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice on February 2, 2023.

Congratulating S Vaidyanathan, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma wrote on X, “Congratulations and best wishes to Justice S. Vaidyanathan on being sworn in as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya. We welcome him to Meghalaya.”

Who is Justice S Vaidyanathan?

Born on August 17, 1962 at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, he did his schooling in Singaram Pillai High School Villivakkam, Chennai and graduation in B.A. (Economics) at D.G.Vaishnav College, Arumbakkam during 1979-82.

He had obtained his B.L. in Madras Law College in 1985. He had obtained his Post Graduate Diploma in Personal Management, Labour Welfare and Industrial Relations in 1986.

He got enrolled as an Advocate on 27th August 1986. After his enrolment in the Bar in 1986, Justice Vaidyanathan was appointed as a judge of Madras high court on October 25, 2013.

He practised at the Madras high court and various tribunals and his area of practice was labour, service, criminal and company matters.

During his tenure of 10 years as a judge of the high court, Justice S Vaidyanathan had authored 1,219 reported judgments, of which 692 were delivered during the past five years.
