CM Saha today assured that he would address the script issue and work towards resolving it
Within two days of the Tripura Indigenous Students Federation (TISF) calling for an indefinite rail and road blockade throughout Tripura with effect from tomorrow, another student body, the Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF) has extended its unequivocal support to TISF’s call for the indefinite strike and also called for indefinite strike beginning tomorrow.
The Kokborok language row in Tripura has been escalating to a new high every other day, with no sign of ending anytime soon.
The blockade is in demand to include the Roman script alongside Bengali for Kokborok language in the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) examinations.
The call for the blockade has come after TBSE President Dr. Dhananjoy Gonchowdhury on Thursday reversed his decision regarding the language preference for examination and said that it would be mandatory to answer Kokborak subjects solely in Bengali script.
It may be mentioned here that Gonchowdhury has reversed his decision just three days after announcing that students would have the choice to answer in either Bengali or Roman script in the Kokborok examination in Tripura.
TSF said that it has called for the indefinite strike to emphasize the importance of their demand.
Hamalu Jamatia, General Secretary of TISF, made the announcement during a press conference at the Agartala Press Club.
Speaking to Northeast Livem, Jamatia also appealed to Chief Minister Manik Saha, who is also the Education Minister of the state to address the issue promptly to avoid further escalation of the crisis.
Meanwhile, speaking to media on the sidelines of a blood donation camp in Agartala, CM Saha today assured that he would address the script issue and work towards resolving it.
