Assam: Manas National Park witnesses record footfall of tourists

Tiger sightings have been the key attraction for the tourists this season.

A home to varied species of flora and fauna, the Manas National Park in Assam has witnessed a high footfall of tourists this season.

Usually, the best season to visit the UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site is during November to April.

As per the park authorities, so far about 31 thousand 200 tourists have visited the park, which also includes 570 foreign tourists. The revenue collection this tourist season stands at nearly Rs 73 lakh so far.

“There has been lot of wildlife sightings this time, especially tiger sighting is very high. Tiger sighting is maximum in Bhuyanpara and so tourists want to go there. Tiger sighting is a good indication. It happened earlier in Basbari,” a Park official informed.

The Park is located in the foothills of the Himalayas spreading across the Chirang and Baksa districts.

The Park which lies along the banks of the Manas River, a tributary of the Brahmaputra, is home to the Royal Bengal Tiger, Asian Elephant, Greater One-horned Rhinoceros, Clouded Leopard, Hoolock Gibbons, Barking Deers, Gangetic Dolphin, and the rare Golden Langur, besides a variety of flora and fauna.

The Manas National Park is also a Project Tiger Reserve, an Elephant Reserve and a Biosphere Reserve.
The park is the second most popular National Park for tourists after the Kaziranga National Park in Golaghat district of Assam.
