CM Sangma assured entrepreneurs that the government will provide subsidy of up to 75 per cent for the right projects
Close to 40 beneficiaries were given financial assistance under the Meghalaya Government’s CM-Elevate scheme,on Friday, for setting up of multipurpose swimming pool and gym, futsal ground and basketball court.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma shared the news on his official X handle. He wrote, “To celebrate entrepreneurship and the spirit of our entrepreneurs, we are thrilled to handover the first batch of cheques to individual entrepreneurs, collectives and village organisations across Meghalaya under the CM-ELEVATE program. Meghalaya has one of the best entrepreneurship support programs in the country and CM-ELEVATE is a step ahead to further strengthen the entrepreneurship ecosystem in our State.”
Meghalaya government has embarked on a mission to promote entrepreneurship in the state, with an ambitious plan to provide opportunities to 20,000 plus entrepreneurs to avail financial support under the scheme.
Speaking to media Sangma said, “In the next 3-4 years, maybe even before that we are aiming to provide support to over 20,000 entrepreneurs in different businesses at different levels, which has never happened in the history of the state. We will also provide logistical and intellectual support to the entrepreneurs.”
Stressing on the importance of entrepreneurship in the economic development of a state, the Chief Minister said, “ As a government we have always believed that an economy of a nation or economy of a state can only be driven by entrepreneurship and by the private sector. A government’s role and responsibility is primarily to create the ecosystem, to provide policies, incentives and an infrastructure where entrepreneurship can thrive. With this clear-cut strategy of ours, from the beginning of MDA-1, we have been stressing on entrepreneurship as the main driver of the economy.”
Sangma further stated that Meghalaya is leading one of the, if not the most aggressive entrepreneurship programmes in the country and assured entrepreneurs that the government will provide subsidy of up to 75 per cent for the right projects.
“This is maybe one of the most aggressive entrepreneurship programmes anywhere in the country. We are allowing you to come up with any kind of proposal that you wish. We will screen the proposals and we will provide up to 75 per cent subsidy to help you establish that particular business,” he said.
