Centre’s nod for 2 Rly projects in Assam, Nagaland worth over Rs 3 cr

The two projects are--7.062 km of Agthori-Kamakhya with new Rail cum Road Bridge in Assam and 140 km of Lumding-Furkating in Assam and Nagaland
In a significant move to enhance transportation efficiency, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday approved two multi-tracking railway projects for Assam and Nagaland entailing an investment of over Rs 3 crore.
The 7.062 km of Agthori-Kamakhya with new Rail cum Road Bridge in Assam will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 1.6 crore, while the 140 km of Lumding-Furkating in Assam and Nagaland will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 2.3 crore.
Besides, these two projects, the CCEA has also approved four multi-tracking railway projects for Rajasthan, Telangana, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh.
These six projects will be constructed at an estimated Rs 12.3 crore and is likely to be ready by 2029-30. The projects are expected to generate direct employment for about 3 crore man-days during construction.
Once completed, it will enhance rail connectivity, improve transportation efficiency, boost economic growth in different regions and help reduce congestion on busy railway networks.
The projects will increase the existing line capacity of the sections causing smoothening of the train operations and improved punctuality as well as wagon turn-around time, an official release said.
