Mizoram: Drugs worth around Rs 31 cr seized, 6 arrested in 2 separate ops

In a crackdown against drugs, Mizoram Police and the Excise and Narcotics Department yesterday seized a significant amount of drugs, estimated to be worth Rs 31 crore, and heroin, the value of which is not known in two separate operations. Police have also arrested 6 drug peddlers in connection with these cases.

Based on specific inputs, a joint operation team of CID (SB) and Champhai DEF of Mizoram Police on Tuesday conducted a search operation in Champhai district.

During the operation, the team apprehended two individuals. On thoroughly checking, the team team recovered 10 packets of suspected Crystal meth or Methamphetamine ( a very addictive stimulant drug) weighing 10.385 kgs from their possession.

An estimated value of the seized drugs is around Rs. 31.115 crores in the grey market.

The arrested drug peddlers have been dentified as–Malsawmzuali and
Lalchhandama, both residents of Lengpui.

A case has been registered into the matter at Zokhawthar Police Station, and further investigation is underway.

In an another operation, the Excise and Narcotics Department of Mizoram seized 577 grams of heroin and arrested four people in connection with the case.

Arrested drug peddlers have been identified as– Vanneihmawii (30), Lalnunsiama (21), Malsawmdawngliana (19),and Laltlanmawia (36).

All have been booked under The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
