Meghalaya: 2 dead in mob lynching in South West Garo Hills, probe underway

In a sensational case of mob lynching, 2 persons were killed after they were brutally thrashed by an irate mob in Meghalaya’s South West Garo Hills last night.

SP South West Garo Hills Vikash Kumar in a press statement said that the police had received an input suggesting that “some dacoits have been detained by people in Jaluagr (MangsangGittim) village.

Accordingly, In-Charge, Garodoba OGC and staff proceeded to the spot and rescued 3 persons who were detained and assaulted by the mob and kept on the roadside.”

All the injured persons were taken immediately to Garobadha PHC and during the treatment, both Balen G Sangma and Sken D Shira succumbed to their injuries.

Another accused Betuwel D Shira was shifted to Tura Civil Hospital for better treatment.

The South West Garo Hills SP has also informed that 2 among the 3 persons have antecedents and have been arrested previously in various cases related to murder, kidnapping for ransom, extortion, Arms Act besides others in the South West Garo Hills district.

In the meantime, police have sought information about those involved in the attack.

The SP in a statement said, “If any person has any information about the miscreants involved in this illegal act, they are requested to inform the Police Station immediately. Their identity shall be kept secret and suitable reward shall be given. People are advised not to take law in their hands and refrain from involving in crimes. Police shall take strict and stern necessary action as per law.”
