Mayank Agarwal, Indian cricketer and current skipper for Karnataka Ranji team fell ill on board a flight bound for New Delhi on Tuesday, prompting an emergency detour to a local hospital in Agartala.

The incident occurred just before takeoff, according to a statement from a senior police officer of Tripura police.

Mayank, known for his contributions in 21 Test matches for India, had recently led Karnataka to a notable 29-run victory against Tripura on Monday. However, his journey took an unexpected turn as he faced health issues during the flight.

Superintendent of West Tripura district, Dr. Kiren Kumar K, shed light on the situation after visiting the hospital and meeting Mayank Agarwal’s manager, Ramesh Rao.

According to Dr. Kiren, a specific case has been registered at the New Capital Complex police station based on the manager’s account. It was reported that Mayank consumed something, believed to be water, from the pouch in front of his seat upon entering the airplane. Shortly thereafter, he experienced irritation in his mouth, leading to his prompt transfer to a local ILS hospital in Agartala.

As per latest update, Mayank Agarwal’s condition is stable. However, he is dealing with swelling and ulcers in his mouth. Dr. Kiren Kumar K emphasized that an investigation into the matter is underway to determine the nature of the substance consumed by the cricketer.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, Mayank has lost his voice, a consequence of the burning sensation he endured.

Health Secretary of Tripura, Kiren Gitte, also visited the hospital, mentioning that due to the discomfort Mayank is experiencing, he is currently unable to speak.

It is anticipated that, given his stable condition, Mayank Agarwal may fly to Bangalore tomorrow and initiatives are on to manage an air ambulance.
