Manipur: CM N Biren Singh launches Imphal Ring Road Project

The project to be built at a cost of over Rs 1700 crore is expected to be complete by December 2026
The much anticipated Imphal Ring Road Project was launched today by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh. The project is estmiated to come up at a cost of over Rs 1700 crore and will improve the road connectivity in Imphal by helping to decongest the city and promoting the use of e-vehicles.
Soon after launching the project, CM N Biren Singh said, “Today’s launching program is a very important project, but it could not be expedited last 10-15 years, but with the intervention of PM Modi, it was expedited in 2020. I really thank him on behalf of the people of Manipur and the authorities of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) who has funded this project. The cost of this project will be approximately Rs 1750 crore and today we are launching because work order has been given to the company and we are targetting to complete the project by 2026 December.”
Manipur PWD Minister Govindas Konthoujam was also present on the occasion. Speaking to Northeast Live, Konthoujam said, “We consider today as a very historic day because longing for this project from a very long time. The concept of the project was generated in 2015-2016 but unfortunately it could not go through. But in 2020 with the help of CM which is his dream project, we got it thorugh. I think this will boost the socio-economic condition of the state an hopefull we will be able to complete this project within 2026 December. Hoepfully people will cooperate with us regarding any problem such as land acquisition and others.
I have earnestly urged the people and requested them to cooperate with the department so that we can complete the project as scheduled in 2026.”
The Ring Road, besides addressing the traffic congestion shall provide rapid transport corridor with access to all the major administrative institution and commercial centres. This will also facilitate expansion of the city, decentralising and decongesting the present core zone of the city in line with the Centre’s policy of urban development.
