4 from Northeast selected for Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2024

Proud moment for the Northeastern region of India. 4 children including two athletes from the region have been nominated for the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP) 2024.

Young shuttler from Arunachal Pradesh, Jessica Neyi Saring and judoka from Manipur, Linthoi Chanambam have been selected for the award in sports catagory.

While, Jyotsna Aktar from Tripura and Saiyam Mazumdar from Assam have been nominated for the prestigious award in the social service category.

Besides them, 15 other children (both boys and girls), have been selected from 18 States and UTs of the country for their exceptional achievements.

The awardees will be conferred the award by President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremonial function to be held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, today.

Each awardee of PMRBP will be given a medal, certificate and a citation booklet.

PMRBP is given to children with exceptional abilities and outstanding achievements. The awards are given to children in the age group 5 – 18 years for their excellence in seven categories for Bravery, Art & Culture, Environment, Innovation, Science & Technology, Social Service and Sports that deserve national recognition.

Who is Jessica Neyi Saring?

Hailing from Roing in Lower Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh, Jessica Neyi Saring is daughter of Bharat Saring. She has won the gold medal at the recently held All India Sub Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament (U-13) at Lord Buddha Badminton Academy in Bihar.

For the past three years, Jessica has set the record for winning the Girl’s Single categories under 09, 11 and 13 in the Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Badminton Championship.

Who is Linthoi Chanambam?

16-year-old Judoka, Linthoi Chanambam hails from Mayang Imphal, Manipur. She is the first ever Indian to win gold at the 2022 World Cadet Judo Championship held in Sarajevo, Bosnia.

She started Judo in July 2014. Before joining Judo, she used to play football, boxing, wrestling, and other fun games, but not on a professional level.

Who is Jyotsna Aktar?

16-year-old Jyotsna Aktar hails from Tripura. She will be conferred the award for fighting against early marriages in her village.

Jyotsna Akhtar’s determination to stand against child marriage serves as an inspiration to many, which emphasizes the value of education and gives young girls the confidence to follow their aspirations.

Who is Saiyam Mazumdar?

16-year-old prodigy Saiyam Majumdar hails from Guwahati, Assam. He is a passionate wildlife specialist and experienced snake rescuer. His passions go beyond saving reptiles,

Mazumdar also has a commendable interest in saving canines. Saiyam stands out for his dedication to the environment, which has inspired his equivalents.
