Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma Friday created sensation when he said that he expects Centre to put Manipur under President’s Rule as peace remains elusive in the state neighbouring Mizoram and fresh violence erupted in Moreh over the past few days resulting in intermittent firing by gunmen targeting security forces.

To a question from the media on the sidelines of the NEC meeting in Shillong, the Mizoram Chief Minister said, “That’s what (President’s Rule) we are expecting since very long because the situation does not change and sometimes it gets worse.”

So far at least 2 security personnel have died and several other were injured when fresh violence broke out in Moreh since December 30, 2023. The gunmen has been using RPGs, pistols and snipers to attack the combined forces of Assam Rifles, BSF and Manipur Police.

Centre decided to rush additional central forces to Moreh to contain the flare up.

When asked by reporters about the situation in Manipur, Governor Anusuiya Uikey refused to comment.
It needs to be mentioned here that Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh had to skip the North East Council meeting, a forum to discuss the growth, development and funds for the northeastern states, because of the volatile situation in his state.

The NEC Plenary Session today was chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. All the other northeast CMs except CM Biren Singh were present.
