2-day bird census underway in Kaziranga

A 2-day bird census got underway in Kaziranga National Park today morning with forest officials, ornithologists and government officials starting the survey.

The officials and experts will study 50 lakes, streams and other water bodies as well as the forest areas of the region.

In the winter season Kaziranga is specially known for the migratory birds which enhances the beauty of the region.

The first wetland study, started in 2018, revealed that the park was home to 10,412 birds from 80 species belonging to 21 families. Critically endangered birds such as red-headed vulture and greater spotted eagle were spotted.

The second bird count conducted in 2020 saw the number of birds increase to 19,225 birds belonging to 96 species of 80 families.
