TIPRA Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Deb Barman has demanded for Village Council election at the earliest for the development of the rural areas in Tripura.
Notably, as many as 785 village councils spread across Tripura ADC had their tenures expired a few months back but the elections could not be held due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
He argued that as elections are being conducted in Manipur, UP & even urban local body polls for Tripura was held successfully recently the village council polls need to be looked into as well. He said that the Tipra Motha has decided to submit a memorandum to the Tripura Governor in this regard and take up the matter with the Election Commission.
He also informed of moving to the high court in case there was no response. He said that even if polls were not possible for now announcement on its timing should be made so that preparations for elections which is a “100% must” can begin. He further added that the development activities in the Autonomous District Council areas are getting hampered in the absence of the newly elected village councils.
