The row over Meghalaya CM’s participation during this year’s Republic Day celebrations has refused to die down. Despite a clarification by Conrad Sangma himself and an indication by the state Principal Secretary Health that no violation of protocol may have taken place on January 26, there seems to be no end to the controversy.
The latest to comment on the issue is from advisor to CM Conrad Sangma, AL Hek.
In a direct attack on CM Conrad Sangma, Hek said that if a Chief Minister of a state violates protocol, how can one expect people to follow the standard operating procedures.
It may be mentioned that this is not the first time in recent months that former health minister AL Hek has been critical of CM Conrad Sangma and the functioning of the government. However, his remark on the alleged Covid protocol violation issue is certain to draw sharp reactions.
Meanwhile, the Congress too has sought an explanation from the health department on the entire issue. CLP leader Ampareen Lyngdoh has said that the Directorate of Health needs to explain the situation.
Earlier, the Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has already termed certain individuals discussing such petty issues when the entire state is talking about the border talks and Meghalaya attaining 50 years of statehood as unfortunate.
