Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio on Republic Day paid tributes to the Oting firing victims while speaking on the progress of the SIT probe into the incident.

CM Rio also stressed that his government will continue to play a pro-active role to facilitate an early solution to the Naga peace talks. In his Republic Day speech, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio spoke about the state government’s push for the repeal of AFSPA.

CM Rio, while paying tributes to the victims of the Mon firing, informed the audience that the SIT probe into the incident has made steady progress. CM Rio reiterated that the opposition-less government in the state will continue to push for an early solution to the Naga Peace Talks.

Earlier on January 12, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said that the SIT report pertaining to the December 4 Oting incidents near complete. He added that the SIT is only awaiting the report from the Central Forensics Science Laboratory before tabling the final report.

Besides, CM Rio added that the Army will also be submitting its report on its internal inquiry looking into the Mon Killings. Speaking on demands from various fronts to make the SIT report public, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said that there are certain norms that need to be reviewed to make sure whether it will be legally correct or not to do so.

Additionally, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio reiterated that the stand of the state government and the public is very clear on repealing AFSPA from the State. He however added that repealing the Act will be a long process as it needs to go through the parliament.
