In a major jolt to the Sikkim Democratic Front, senior leaders, including Vice President Ganesh Rai, tendered their resignation today. Notably, former SDF Vice President Ganesh Rai announced the formation of a new political party this year.
Apart from Ganesh Rai, other senior SDF leaders who resigned today include Sonam Gyatso Lepcha, Dawso Lepcha, and Moses Rai. Besides this, a number of senior leaders also stepped down from the party ranks.

Notably, Sonam Gyatso Lepcha is a former Power Minister in the Sikkim Government and Dawcho Lepcha is the former Agriculture Minister, while Moses Rai was the SDF candidate for Poklok Kamrang Constituency in the 2019 Bye Election.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Ganesh Rai said that the SDF leadership has not responded to their suggestions, apart from a leadership crisis within the party.
