All state government, government-aided, and private educational institutions, universities, colleges, tutorials, coaching institutes, and hostels will remain closed till January 31 in Sikkim.
The annual examinations in government schools, which were scheduled to take place from January 27 to February 5, have also been postponed until January 31, 2022.Examinations and other activities of government-aided and private educational institutions, universities, colleges, tutorials, and coaching institutes that cannot be conducted in virtual mode will also be postponed until January 31.

In the past few days, Sikkim has seen a sudden spike in Covid infections, with both numbers and positivity rates showing a marked increase. The state government has announced strict restrictions on the movement and gathering of people, along with a COVID negative certificate for entry to Sikkim starting January 10.
Meanwhile, Sikkim registered 112 Covid new cases from the 411 samples tested on Sunday. The state’s Covid positivity rate has risen to an alarming level of 27.2%. Among the new Covid infections, 67 cases were reported from the east district, followed by 42 cases from the west district. Two cases were reported from the south district and one from the north district.

At present, there are 314 active Covid cases in Sikkim. One more Covid death was reported, the first such casualty in 2022. The total Covid death toll in Sikkim is now 401 deaths.
