Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has once again indicated that constant efforts are on to bring the ULFA-Independent to the talks table.

CM Sarma said that a positive environment is needed to carry forward the peace process with the ULFA-Independent.

Briefing the media after the SP’s conference in Duliajan, Chief Minister Sarma said that he has to consult the Centre besides other stakeholders in making decisions pertaining to the peace process while maintaining that Paresh Baruah can take his own decision.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that things get more complicated if the struggle continues to go longer. Sarma said both sides are aware of the fact that they have some compulsions.

The Assam Chief Minister believes that some amount of positivity has been created between both sides in the past few months. Meanwhile, in a significant statement Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that he has urged upon the Centre to conclude the ongoing talks with the pro-talk ULFA faction by doing whatever is needed, be it by signing of an accord.

Sarma in this context said that it was hard to hold negotiations with different groups at the same time which also makes things complicated.

Meanwhile, the 2-day conference of all SPs chaired by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma concluded today. During the conference, deliberations focussed on tackling organised crimes, stopping collections of forced donation, besides providing security to assets of the state besides other key aspects.

Chief Minister Sarma also directed the cops to conduct special operations against drunk driving during festivities. Meanwhile, in a significant statement Chief Minister Sarma said that organisations which call for the shutdown will have to pay compensations to those who have incurred losses owing to the bandh. The Chief Minister also urged the SPs to make efforts for reducing the gap between people and police.
