Cardiologist Dr Sanjay Upreti, who was attacked by a man at Gangtok’s STNM Hospital, has passed away.
According to latest inputs, Dr Upreti breathed his last around 3 AM at the Neotia Superspeciality Hospital in Siliguri today.

He was airlifted to Siliguri on an Indian Army chopper for advanced treatment.
Earlier, the 42-year-old accused Tshering Bhutia who was nabbed by the police following the incident revealed shocking details as to why he stabbed Dr Upreti and medical attendant Kalawati Chetri.
Bhutia said he attacked the lady because she did not answer his phone calls and when he came to take her along with him, she refused.
Following this, Bhutia said he attacked her with a knife. Dr Sanjay Upreti, who tried to intervene, was also attacked by Bhutia.

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang had been monitoring the case personally and even made multiple visits at the hospital to enquire about the doctor’s health. It was the Chief Minister’s decision to airlift Dr Upreti to Siliguri for advanced treatment.
