Day after the crucial Chief Ministerial meet on the inter-state border dispute with Assam, Meghalaya Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui today said that the state government was optimistic of resolving the issue soon. Rymbui said that both states are showing a keen interest in solving the matter once and for all.
It may be mentioned that the Governments of both states have resolved to solve differences in the majority of the 6 disputed areas taken up in the first phase on or before the 15th of January. The regional committees have also been asked to submit their reports latest by December 31st.
Chief Ministers of Assam & Meghalaya Chief Ministers held a crucial meet in Guwahati on the inter-state border dispute between the two states at Guwhati yesterday where the reports were submitted by the respective Regional Committees on border issue were discussed.
Assam and Meghalaya have identified six areas of dispute to be resolved in the first phase. Out of the three regional committees in Meghalaya, 2 have submitted their report, while the government has asked the third to submit its report at the earliest.
The two Chief Ministers had made a joint visit to Langpih recently as part of a goodwill gesture to send across a strong message that both the governments are committed to resolving the long-pending border differences.
