The demand for justice for the 14 civilians killed in firing by security forces in Nagaland’s Mon district continues to get louder by the day. The setting up of a high-level S.I.T probe by the Nagaland government and a court of inquiry initiated by the Indian Army under a Major General rank officer has done little to allay the apprehensions of the residents of Mon district who have resolved to continue their movement till the time justice is delivered.
As such, people in hundreds led by the Konyak Union took to the streets in Mon today demanding justice for the 14 killed in the firing incident.
Slogans demanding justice for the victims and repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act reverberated the air as people marched all the way to the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mon with a memorandum to be submitted to the President of India.
The protestors demanded that those behind the killings be identified and brought to justice.
Besides, the Konyak Union, as well as other civil society organisations, demanded an independent inquiry under a competent investigating agency.
The agitating organisations further demanded that a report of action taken must be put before the public within 30 days.
The Konyak Union also handed over a memorandum to the Mon Deputy Commissioner K Thavaseelan to be submitted to President Ramnath Kovind.
