Tripura is soon going to have its first Film and Television Institute at capital Agartala said state’s Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury.

Speaking on the side-line of a preparatory meeting for the 40th Agartala book fair on Tuesday, Chowdhury informed that the proposal has already been cleared by the state Chief Secretary and discussions have been finalised with the authorities of the Satyajit Roy Film and Television Institute, Kolkata.

The Minister said that the institute will not only open a new avenue for higher education but, also boost employment.

He informed that during his visit to New Delhi last week he had a meeting with Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Anurag Singh Thakur and the matter was discussed with him.

Chowdhury added that the Union Minister has given his consent to visit the state in connection to the inauguration of the institute which is likely to commence from early next year.
