The ashes of General Bipin Rawat and his wife Dr. Madhulika Rawat were immersed in the Ganges in the holy city of Haridwar today. Daughters Tarini and Kritika who had performed their parents’ final rites also consigned their ashes.

Earlier in the morning, they visited the Brar square crematorium, collected the ash before reaching Haridwar. Both Rawat and his wife were cremated on the same funeral pyre.

General Rawat, India’s 1st Chief of Defence Staff his wife, and 11 others died when a Mi17V5 helicopter carrying them crashed at the Nilgiris near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu. Gen Rawat was cremated with full military honours and was accorded 17 gun salute.

Both the daughters performed the traditional rituals and before the funeral procession began around 2.20 pm yesterday. Kritika the eldest daughter, is married, and lives in Mumbai. Tarini who is the younger one used to stay with their parents in New Delhi.
