Assam to embark on a week-long massive vaccination drive, 1 lakh govt employees to hit the ground

Nearly one lakh government employees including ANM, ASHA workers will embark on a massive vaccination will visit door to door with an aim to gather the vaccination status of each individual in in Assam. The survey will start on November 29th and will continue for a week till the 5th of December. This was announced by the Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in a press briefing at Assam Administrative Staff College, Guwahati.

The Chief Minister also informed that three lakh individuals in the state are yet to receive the 1st dose of the Covid-19 vaccination. The Assam government will make out all efforts to identify them in the next week. The vaccination survey will use the voters’ list at the booth level to make sure that each individual in the state is at least partially vaccinated . The drive will also encourage those who are partially vaccinated to get full vaccination during their window for the 2nd dose.

The 1 lakh government employees would be engaged in the drive will go door to door to check the vaccination status. Voters list in 28 thousand 205 polling booths will be the basis of this certification drive. A certificate per polling booth would be issued to the state government certifying about completion of 1st dose of vaccine. The state government subsequently will send this certificate to the Centre.

The renewed push for the covid-19 vaccination comes when the world is coming to terms with the newest ‘Variant of Concern’- Omicron. The Chief Minister urged the people of Assam to remain vigilant and maintain every precaution given the emergence of the new variant.

“The variant is believed to be 300% more transmissible. The new variant has the capacity to bring down protection to the virus by 40%,” he informed during the press briefing.

A total of 2 Crore 10 lakh individuals have been vaccinated as of yet. According to official numbers, there are 3 lakh more individuals who need to be at least given the 1st dose to complete 100% partial vaccination in the state.
