In an incident of major security breach, as many as seven under trial prisoners out of 94 escaped from the East Siang district jail on Sunday evening.
Sources said the incident took place at around 6:30 pm when the cell was opened for dinner. The prisoners escaped by attacking and throwing chilli powder at the guards manning the jail.
The seven prisoners, who managed to escape from the jail, have been identified as Telung Panyi, Abhijit Gogoi, Taro Hamam, Raja Tayeng, Kalen Apang, Deny Gamlin and Subash Mandal.
An FIR has been lodged against the prisoners at Pasighat police station. As per reports, five prison guards sustained injuries in the incident.
Meanwhile, police have also launched a massive manhunt and cordoned off possible exit points at 2 Mile, Raneghat, Sille, Ruksin and Mebo.
