Assam Govt to provide Rs. 5000 for cremation of COVID-19 victims

In an order issued by the State Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the National Health Mission (NHM), Assam will provide up to Rs. 5000 as expenditure to the relatives of those who cannot bear the cremation expenses of patients who die of COVID-19.
However, the allowance will be provided only in those cases where the relatives do not receive the body or cannot afford to bear the cremation expenses.
The announcement was made through an official order issued by Principal Secretary to the Government of Assam, Samir K. Sinha.
The order stated, “In view of the difficulties communicated by Deputy Commissioners regarding cremation of COVID positive patients, it is decided that expenditure up to Rs. 5,000 will be allowed in each case of death of each COVID positive patient, towards cremation expenses if the relatives do not receive the body or they cannot bear the cremation expenses. Funds for this purpose will be provided by NHM, Assam.”
Meanwhile, Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma taking to Twitter informed regarding the decisions taken by the Health Department on COVID-19.
“2 decisions by Health Dept on #Covid19 A. In view of #unlock4guidelines a person who travels outside Assam & returns within 96 hrs will not be quarantined subject to conditions in attached order B. Upto Rs 5000 towards cremation of #Covid patients if family unable to bear cost,” Sarma tweeted.
