The All Assam Tea Tribes Students Association (AATTSA) unit of Dibrugarh in Assam has demanded for hike in the daily wages of workers in the tea gardens. The AATTSA unit along with workers from the Maijan tea estate sub branch held a protest in the tea estate premises on Friday.

The protesters numbering into hundreds, carried placards and banners, as they demanded that the daily wages of workers be increased to Rs 351. The protesters also demanded that better health facilities be provided to the workers and their families.

Earlier, the association had submitted a memorandum to the tea garden management on August 20 to fulfill their demands within a week.

The protesters who received the support from the workers also stated that it’s really pathetic to note that tea garden workers till date are subjected to a sub standard life by their respective managements concerned. They also demanded procurement of an ambulance for the garden.

The protesters also threatened that they will intensify their stir if the management continues to remain apathetic towards their demands.
