As the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) gears up for the 2021 Assembly elections, Atul Bora is set to continue as the party president. Bora, who is the Agriculture and Veterinary Minister of Assam has been ‘re-elected’ unopposed as the President of the AGP once again.
Bora was elected in the 11th central general conference of the AGP held at the party’s headquarters in Guwahati. Bora was elected unopposed as no one else had filed nomination for the position.
However, all apparently is not well within the AGP with senior party leader and former chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta skipping the party’s general conference. In fact, Mahanta has termed the meet against the party’s constitution.
Significantly, Mahanta was present at the party headquarters during the conference, but decided not to attend it.
Atul Bora, however has refuted allegations on unconstitutionality of the meet and added that the party will go all out to put up a good show in 2021 Assembly polls.
Senior party leader Keshab Mahanta, who was elected the working president, also echoed similar views.
Meanwhile, the AGP maintained that the meeting was held by following all Covid protocols.
It may be mentioned that the Kamrup Metro civil court had restrained the AGP from holding its general conference after ruling that the event would violate Covid 19 protocols set by the government.
