Reports have come in that some Indian workers are stuck in Myanmar unable to return to the country. The workers had crossed over for construction of 69 bridges for the trilateral highway in Myanmar.

While the India-Myanmar border was sealed on March 9th in the wake of the Coronavirus threat, Myanmarese residents who were in Manipur for various purposes were allowed to leave after they furnished proper documents at the Indo-Myanmar Friendship Gate in Moreh.

However, as per reports, since the border is sealed, the India workers who were engaged in construction work in Myanmar were not allowed to enter in the absence of any order allowing entry of people from Myanmar side.

As per sources, the India workers were at the receiving end as the contractors were not paying their wages since few days.

Meanwhile, reports are also doing rounds that Indian tourists who had travelled to Mandalay were also stuck on the other side of the border. They are waiting for the Government’s response to take them back.
