Budget 2020: Sivasagar among 5 archaeological sites to be developed with on-site museums

Five archaeological sites in the country will be developed as iconic sites with on-site museums. The heritage city of Assam’s Sivasagar will also be developed as iconic site with on-site museum, under the new budget.

The decision was announced by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman while presenting Union Budget for the financial year 2020-21 in the parliament on Saturday.

“Five archaeological sites would be developed as iconic sites with on-site museums. They are Rakhigarhi in Haryana, Hastinapur in Uttar Pradesh, Sivasagar in Assam, Dholavira in  Gujarat and Adichanallur in Tamil Nadu,” announced finance minister Sitharaman.

Sivasagar, formerly known as Rangpur, was the capital of the Ahom Kingdom from 1699 to 1788. It preserves many monuments of Ahom era including ‘Rang Ghar’, ‘Talatal Ghar’, ‘Shivadol’,’Jaysagar Tank’, ‘Kareng Ghar’ etc.
