The Meghalaya government has asked the three autonomous District Councils of the state to ensure that checking for labour and trading licenses is strictly done by the officials of the District Councils.

Informing that it has come to the notice of the state government that certain groups have been going around under the disguise of working for the District Council to check trading license among others, thus meting out harassment to people in certain cases, District Council Affairs Minister, James Sangma said the Chief Executive Members of KHADC, JHADC and EM of GHADC have been directed to come up with a notification that checking is to be conducted only by the officers of the District Councils.

Meanwhile, the three District Councils were also given an update on the proposed amendments pertaining to the sixth schedule of the constitution and the Councils were informed that the matter is now pending with the Parliamentary Standing Committee.
