Tragedy struck Assam’s Dibrugarh city late Friday night when a major fire claimed the lives of five persons including two minors.

All the deceased belonged to a single family, the deceased have been identified as Maya Sonar, Bishal Sonar, Subu Sonar and Shankar Sonar. Another person dead has been identified as the family servant.

Only one member of the family identified as Rajesh Sonar ended up as the sole survivor of the family, as he was out driving. The fire broke out in Nij Kadamani area.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has ordered a probe into the fire incident. CM Sonowal has directed Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha to investigate the case.

The Chief Minister has also announced a one time compensation of rupees 4 lakh to the kin of those deceased in the fire incident.
