Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday extended an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court for attributing his “chowkidar chor hai” jibe to the court after its Rafale judgement.

Rahul Gandhi has filed a fresh affidavit with unconditional apology to the Supreme Court in a contempt of court case against him. Gandhi said he holds the Supreme Court in “highest esteem” and has sought closure of contempt proceedings against him.

The affidavit says, “Deponent unconditionally apologises for the wrongful attributions to the court. The Deponent further states that any such attributions were entirely unintentional, non-willful and inadvertent.”

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had filed affidavits saying he “regrets” making the said comments against the Supreme Court. However, a Supreme Court bench led by CJI Ranjan Gogoi asked for his complete apology for misquoting the apex court.
