15 boys from Assam’s Karbi Anglong district studying at a Buddhist institution near Bodh Gaya in Bihar, have been allegedly sexually abused, physically assaulted and tortured by a monk who has since been arrested by the local police.
The incident came to light after the boys complained about it to their guardians following which a complaint was lodged at Bodh Gaya Police station by the headmen of a village in Karbi Anglong from where some of the boys hail.
The 15 boys from Assam were subjected to sexual and physical torture by the monk who ran an institution called “Prasanna Jyoti Buddhist School and Meditation Centre” at Mastipur village in Bodh Gaya where the children were studying.
The children had complained about the monk to their respective guardians.
Meanwhile, Karbi Anglong SP Siva Prasad Ganjala informed Northeast Live that the victim boys, all belonging to the Chakma community, hail from as many as 8 villages under Borlangfer police station in the district.
Bodh Gaya DSP Rajkumar Shah said that the police are investigating the matter and relevant action will be taken against the guilty. The children had complained about the monk to their respective guardians.
The Children further complained that they were thrashed, mistreated and sexually abused during their stay in the school.
