Furore over construction of Lower Subansiri dam; AJYCP stage protest against NHPC

The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on Wednesday staged protest against NHPC’s Lower Subansiri Dam Project in Lakhimpur.

The AJYCP demanded immediate shut-down of the construction of Lower Subansiri dam.

It may be mentioned that the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) has completed almost 70 percent construction work of the Lower Subansiri hydro project.

According to the protestors, the Lower Subansiri project would cause large scale damage in downstream Assam.

The protestors burned the effigy of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
