An Extra Assistant Commissioner in the state has been arrested for his involvement in a cash-for-job scam in the Itanagar Municipal Council during his tenure as the Chief Municipal Executive Officer of the Council.

EAC Olik Tareng who was arrested from Dehradun on Thursday along with a middleman Nitesh Kumar Mishra, for his alleged involvement in the multi-crore cash for job scam was brought to state capital Itanagar today.

SP, Special Investigation Cell, which is the anti-corruption wing of the state police has confirmed the arrest of Olik Tareng.

Sources said, the cash for job scam involved 170 vacancies in the Itanagar Municipal Council.

Tareng was arrested for allegedly taking bribe for providing jobs for the post of upper division clerks, lower division clerks, junior engineers, sanitary assistant and unskilled contingency staff during his tenure as the CMEO of the Municipal Council.

The district administration had cancelled the recruitments after a complaint was filed against the alleged cash-for job scam by the Arunachal Unemployed Engineers Association.

The amount taken for each job allegedly ranged from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 30 lakh.
