The crucial Ampati bypoll in Meghalaya, recorded a high 90.42 percent polling till 5 pm.
The Congress and the NPP are battling it out in the crucial Ampati by-poll in Meghalaya. Over 65 percent voting was reported till 1 pm and the figure rose to over 90 percent by 5pm.
The result of the polls will decide as to which party will emerge single largest in the state. The NPP is going all out to wrest power in the constituency which has been a Congress bastion for over two decades now.
If the Congress wins the seat, it will emerge as the single largest party in Meghalaya giving it an opportunity to stake claim to government formation.
Former chief minister Mukul Sangma has been at the helm in Ampati for over two decades.
