At a time when the entire State of Assam is up and going all out against the proposed Citizenship Amendment Bill, two important organizations of the State – The All Assam Students’ Association and the All Assam Karmachari Parishad on Tuesday came together and has joined hands to oppose the proposed Bill.

In an all important meeting held between both the organizations has decided not to support the proposed Bill and warned both the State and the Central Government of intense mass agitation if the Bill is not scraped.

Both the organizations have decided to hold an agitation programme in front of the Raj Bhawan in Guwahati on June 4 and submit a memorandum to Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi protesting the Citizenship Amendment Bill.

The issue of NRC updation process was also discussed in the meeting with both the organizations deciding to celebrate May 18 as Prerona Diwas across to encourage the workers working in the NRC Updation process.

This meeting is looked upon as important in the sense that two important organizations of the State – the powerful All Assam Students’ Association and All Assam Karmachari Parishad, which represents around 5 lakh State Government employees, coming together and protesting the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
