Less than 24 hours after the twin blasts outside an Assam Rifles post in Imphal west, a powerful IED blast rocked the Manipur capital killing 2 BSF jawans and injuring at least three others.

The blast took place outside the gate of the Koirengei sector headquarters of the BSF at around 2pm. The two jawans, both of constable rank, received splinter injuries in the blast and succumbed to their injuries later.

The deceased jawans have been identified as constable N. Ningthouba Meitei and constable Sanjay Tirkey. One of the injured, 40-year-old M Premlata Devi is in critical condition and undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity in Imphal.

Meanwhile, sending a stern warning to those behind the incident, Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh said his government is taking the matter very seriously and will not remain a mute spectator to the developments. “We will hunt them down,” Biren Singh asserted.

The Manipur chief minister also condoled the demise of the two BSF jawans and assured all possible assistance to the injured.
