Assam Finance, Health and PWD minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated a number of projects worth crores at the district headquarters of Karbi Anglong yesterday.
During his whirlwind tour of Karbi Anglong, Finance Minister and NEDA Convenor Dr. Sarma also announced a package of developmental schemes worth over Rs 300 crore as a part of the Vikash Utsav at a public meeting in Chitanala SAI Complex in Diphu.
Stating that the government has taken an all-out initiative to bring about fast all-round development, Dr Sarma pointed out that the government has decided to improve the road conditions across the district and added that mini-stadiums and cultural centres would be set up in all the 26 constituencies in Karbi Anglong.
Earlier in the day, Dr Sarma inaugurated the new Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Secretariat Building, Legislative Building, Members’ Hostel, Karbi Anglong Sports Association’s complex , and the Hawkers Rehabilitation Centre cum multi utility building in Diphu in the presence of Town Planning and Development Minister Pijush Hazarika, Hills Development Minister Sum Ronghang, Bokajan MLA Numal Momin and KAAC Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang among others. Dr Sarma also inaugurated the Don Bosco Science College in Diphu.
Significantly, DR Sarma also announced that 5 lakh ex gratia will be given to families of those who lost their lives during the Autonomous state movement in Karbi Anglong. Dr Sarma also added that the government has increased the regular transfer of funds to the Council from Rs 94 crore to 282 crore.
