Tripura recorded over 80 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the Tripura assembly elections till Sunday 9 pm. This was informed by Tripura Chief Electoral officer Sriram Taranikanta.

However, the polling percentage is expected to rise further as voting was on in a number of polling booths, where voting began late because of faulty EVMs. Briefing the media, the Tripura CEO said voting was by and large peaceful with no poll related violence being reported from any part of the state.

Meanwhile, both the CPM and the BJP has demanded for re-polling in a number of polling stations citing reasons that voting began late in those polling booths. However, the matter would be scrutinized by the election commission, stated Tripura chief electoral officer Taranikanta.

The chief electoral officer also said that re-polling will be held in one polling booth in the Karamchara constituency as the polling officer had forgotten to switch off the mock polling unit.
