The world’s tallest dog, Zeus, a Great Dane from the United States, has passed away at the age of three due to bone cancer, according to Guinness World Records (GWR).
Zeus, who stood at a height of 1.046 meters (3 ft 5.18 in) and lived in Bedford, Texas, achieved the record in 2022. He had to undergo surgery to amputate his front right leg to treat the cancer. But, after the operation, Zeus was diagnosed with pneumonia and passed away in the early hours of September 12.
Brittany Davis, Zeus’s owner, expressed her deep sadness, stating, “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved dog, Zeus, the Guinness World Records title holder for the tallest living male dog. Zeus died Tuesday morning of amputation-related pneumonia.”
She added that Zeus passed away with his head in her lap.
Davis also shared her gratitude for the time they had with Zeus, who brought joy and happiness to many people. She mentioned the dedicated team of doctors and nurses who worked tirelessly to help Zeus but, in the end, his illness was too severe.
Davis believes that Zeus is now in a better place, running free and enjoying heavenly treats. She revealed in an earlier interview that her dream was to have a Great Dane, and she received an eight-week-old puppy as a gift from her brother’s colleague. Initially nervous about having such a large dog, she quickly fell in love with Zeus.
Zeus used to prefer a relaxed approach to life and was “very laid back but also strong-minded’. According to the owner, the dog would not do anything that he did not want to do. “Zeus was a truly special dog. He was gentle, loving, very stubborn but always happy to see his family and many, many friends on his adventures around Dallas & Fort Worth,” Ms Davis said.
Zeus would have turned four years old in November.
