Youth dies in road accident; he was on way home for lunch

A youth was killed on Sunday after being hit allegedly by an army vehicle in Guwahati’s Satgaon area.
In a tragic incident, a youth was killed on Sunday while he was on his way home for lunch. The accident took place in the Satgaon Army Cantonment area.
The deceased has been identified as Dhiren Das. The family claimed that Dhiren was hit by an Army vehicle.
According to the family members, Dhiren and his friend were on way home when the accident took place.
They also said that the friend was tied up by the Army personnel for some time. Why he was tied up is not known.
It is the friend who informed the family that Dhiren was hit by an Army vehicle leading to his death.
Army sources or the police is yet to comment on the incident.
On July 8, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his serious concern over rise in road accidents in the state.
As per the latest data shared by the chief minister, the number of road traffic accidents increased to 555 in June 2023 compared to 500 in June last year.
“In June 23, the number of road traffic accidents increased compared to June 22. There were a total of 555 accidents, compared to 500 in June 2022. Additionally, the number of fatalities increased to 255, compared to 235 last year. I am deeply concerned”, CM Sarma tweeted.
