In yet another blow to the Congress ahead of the Assembly Polls in Mizoram, former health minister of the state and party MLA from Tuchang constituency has quit the Congress.
Lalrinliana Sailo is all set to join the opposition Mizo National Front or the MNF.
Sailo said he quit the party and Mizoram Assembly for refusal of the Congress government in the State to create a separate district comprising his home turf Tuchang Assembly seat.
The former minister’s submitted his resignation to Speaker S Hiphei, which was later accepted by the Speaker.
He also submitted his resignation to state Pradesh Congress Committee President and Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla from the Congress party. Sailo further said that he would join the opposition Mizo National Front.
He had been elected to the Assembly for three consecutive terms since 2003 and was a cabinet minister keeping portfolios like health and trade and commerce.
The review meeting was attended by Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura.
